Some historians say that Japan forced about 200,000 women from conquered nations such as Korea and China to work as sex slaves during the war.
Korea and China will say it was more.
Japan has acknowledged that its military did indeed run brothels for its troops. Japan also thinks the matter was settled in postwar treaties.![]()
But...people, and I do indeed think it is a sad state of affairs for women to have been raped, want to dig up the issue yet again...and again...and again...and again....apologies and reparations and such.
There is, however, one legitimate issue. Revisionists in Japan are wanting to say that sexual enslavement never happened and they want to rewrite textbooks, or just omit that part in new textbooks and not educate children about the 'comfort women' experience.
That won't fly in my book.
History should not be deleted or white washed. Japanese children should know what their ancestors did when they are old enough to face it.
My children are doubles. There mother is Japanese.
I made trips to northern China and to Nanjing to see with my own eyes what it was Japan did to the Chinese, from the Chinese perspective.
My Japanese children know their history...even the parts they don't like.
Still I wonder, if people who don't know history are doomed to repeat it. There are always enough fools who can't or won't read to see that is so.
Do you agree?
