The three worst kinds of teachers

A good student can learn from a bad teacher. But a good teacher cannot always teach a bad student.

The good student will have his/her hands full with these three worst kind of teachers.

1. The Popular Teacher - bad.teacher.jpg

   a. very nice people,

   b. loved by their students.

   c. teaching is all about keeping the students active (mostly in game play) during class.

   d. popular with the students because they make class fun.

   e. play with the students rather than teach them

   f. don’t have clear goals and objectives for their lessons.

   g. don’t worry about the content of their curriculum,

   h. don't worry about the length of the units - should be short so that students don’t get bored.

2. The Lazy Teacher -

   a. “roll out the ball” and say “Go play!”

   b. prefer to “teach” only a few types of exercises.

   c. push their students while they are completely self-satisified with their own station in life.

   d. don’t understand, or don’t care, that most of their students hate school because of how it is presented.

   e. lack of imagination in presenting school material often turns students away from wanting more.

   f. hide behind the work of their colleagues

   g. do other things during class under pretenses of working, other than engage the students

3. The Bully Teacher -

   a. scare students into respecting them.

   b. have very strong beliefs about how and what they teach, but their objectives do not reflect standards and guidelines for the profession.

   c. public ridicule of students is something BULLIES are used to doing

   d. misunderstand any call for change and teacher accountability

   e. are very likely to use inappropriate practices such as exercises as punishment on a regular basis,

   f. will swear that there is no way to make kids behave…

   g. will not hesitate to ridicule any organization or person who criticizes how they teach.

Does your student complain about his/her teacher being like any of the above?

Does the teacher in you display any of these characteristics?
