"Society feels this is a disgrace and her actions have affected the reputation of this university," Suraphol Nitikraipot, rector of Thammasat, was quoted as saying by The Nation newspaper.
As a result she was given 15 days community service - readoing to the blind. Perhaps they figured that no matter what she wore, it wouldn't matter to them.
Or, they wanted to impress upon her that it is NOT appearance only that she should appeal to to make an impression on people.
The University showed restraint and understanding of a 22-year old's action - "Since she repented and acknowledged her wrongdoing, we will have to give her a chance," Thammasat's vice rector
The actress was quoted as saying, "I feel very guilty about what happened. I want to apologize," said the girl, clothed in a white button-down shirt and cardigan, her hair pulled back demurely into a loose bun.
Her words of wisdumb, "I didn't know it was going to be such a big deal."
Thai society is very very strongly influenced by Buddhism.
I wonder what she thought was going to happen?
But then, most 22-year olds don't think that far. Why should it be any different in Thailand where she is in her final year of school as a liberal arts major.
Question: just how tolerant should a university and society be of its young people?
