Last year, only 100 black students said they planned to be among UCLA's 4800 new freshmen, the lowest number in more than 30 years.
"The group, which is headed by a Los Angeles businessman and leaders of UCLA's Black Alumni Assn., will make its first scholarship offers in the next few days and plans to give at least $1,000 to each admitted black freshman who enrolls. Additional awards will be based on financial need and academic merit."
Private individuals can do anything they please with their money. And everyone,
black, yellow or otherwise should have the opportunity for a higher education.
But, somehow this doesn't sit right with me. In an effort to give more people, people the same color as them, a chance, some people still might not get the opportunity to learn because they are not the same color.
Am I the only one who is bothered by this?
