Some music tech in Nashville bought a rare copy, one of 200 commissioned by John Quincy Adams in 1820, of the Declaration of Independence at a music thrift shop for $2.48.![]()
He hoped to get $125,000 at auction but wound up with $477,650! A very hefty profit.
A used car, a new sun room, a gift for his parents and a chunk to charity and the money was all gone.
Meanwhile, the thrift store business in Tennessee has gone through the roof...as has Google searches for Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson and John Quincy Adams.
It makes us wonder who has how many treasures and doesn't know it because they didn't pay attention in school.
There's more to be gained from history than just a knowledge of it.
