Some twenty years ago the Washington Post used the word 'McJob.' Oxford calls it a noun, meaning, "an unstimulating, low-paid job with few prospects, esp. one created by the expansion of the service sector."
Don't tell my high school friend, Danny. He flipped burgers in the afternoons through high school. Fast forward 30 years and now he is one of the company's VPs.
McDonalds' execs say the word is demeaning to its workers...workers like Danny...but not to the other hundred thousand that are working for low pay with few prospects in the fast food service sector.
Britons use the word McJob. Here in the US, I don't know what we say. Maybe if McDonalds makes a big enough stink, the word will catch on here, too.
Oh, and the company says, "Leave 'super-size' alone."
Have you ever used the word McJob?
