Instead of laughing their way onto the prankster roll at MIT, they went to jail, faced criminal charges that carry up to 20 years of imprisonment.
Middlesex County prosecutors dropped the charges against the two 19-year olds and one 29-year old.
The issue at stake is/was MIT's implicit endorsement of 'hacking.' In the end, the students were said to have 'hacked' their way into the Faculty Club.
It was pretty high-tech...they rode the elevator to the sixth floor of a building that was open and had no signs restricting entrance. The boys opened a panel in the wall and climbed through a crawl space.
Doesn't seem to me that this one ranks as one for the pranksters roll of fame. What do you think?
I guess, MIT figures if the kids are smart enough to get into the school, they are smart enough to not get into serious trouble...just show what kind of trouble they could get into if they were so inclined.
What's the biggest prank you have ever done?
