My brother called me less than an hour ago. I had been expecting a phone call for sometime because my mom had been "up on the roof."
There's a story that the main character tells in the movie "Capricorn One."
One brother asks another, "how's the cat?"
The brother responds, "The cat died."
The first brother angered shot back, "You can't tell me news like that so suddenly. You have to break it in slowly. The cat was up on the roof. He got scared and couldn't get down. So, we called the firemen. Just as the fireman was about to reach the cat, the cat fell. Sadly, the cat died. If you tell it to me like that, I can prepare myself for the shock."
My mom died about an hour ago.
We have been expecting it for a while. She was old and finally wore out.
Her life was a tough one. For a while she did more wrong than right. Eventually, she figured that out and got things turned around. She was married to the man at the time of her death for 37 years...11 years longer than the time she was married to my father.
Mom was a Christian. Faithful for many of those last 37 years, in the end, winning her husband.
There is no time in heaven, where I am confident my mom is. We are already meeting one another there. The moment she closed her eyes in death she opened them in eternity. I am there, too. Try to think on that for a moment.
The Bible says, "Those who are forgiven much, love much."
My mom ... loved much for she had been forgiven much.
I'll miss not seeing her when I visit home from time to time. But, I will be with her again for eternity, "When the roll is called up yonder!"
How about you? Where will you spend eternity?
