A former mechanical engineering student at Ohio University was found to have borrowed, without citations, too much material.
The student's master's degree was revoked.
As a result of this investigation, Ohio U took a look at 180 additional theses and 55 documents going back to the 1980s.
Of the original 55 documents, 5 were recommended for dismissal, 12 were ordered to do rewrites and the one revokation.
Let's see... 5+12+1 = 18 divided by 55. That's almost one third of the theses were found to be NOT up to par.
Okay, the kids should be blasted for cheating. But, where in the world were the theses advisors? What were they looking at? And didn't they check the citations and references?
Two faculty members were responsible for advising most of the 55.
Those two faculty members should be shown the door.
Have you plagiarized on your theses? Feeling a bit edgy?
Cheaters never win....and they do get caught.
