1. Education is a fundamental right
2. South Dakota children are guaranteed a fee, adequate and high-quality education
3. Education prepares students to meet academic standards, become good citizens, be employable and qualify for higher education.
If the court agrees, the same group wants to sue the state for violating it Constitution by shortchanging schools, spending at an unconstitutionally low amount.
My bet is the state would be glad to spend more on schools, if the parents want to pony up more taxes.
Perhaps the problem is not that the schools are not getting enough money, but that the state is not spending correctly.
And if the state is spending monies correctly, then the parents had better be prepared to dig deep.
If education is a priority, how come more money isn't allocated to it?
