Breakfast at 6:15am.
Out the door at 6:30am.
30-minute commute, arrive at school 7:00am, one hour before classes begin.
6 hours of school.
After school special classes in math, English, music and Chinese.
More weekend classes in math, English, music and Chinese.
This is the schedule of the typical school kid in China.
Is it any wonder that 66% of primary school students and 77% of high school students say they are short of sleep. On that schedule, I'd be short of sleep.
70% of respondents in a recent survey say they think school hours should be cut...to spend more time at a private tutor maybe?
The 'work' of children is to play, develop character, learn to be independent, improve communication skills, and to want to learn...not be made to learn.
Chinese students are working overtime...their parents are cracking the whip from morning to evening.
There has to be a tradeoff sooner or later...and it won't be pretty.
What do you think should be a child's priority?
