Tokai University in Japan has synthesized a new type of compound that will:
1. absorb hydrogen
2. work at temps of 300C![]()
3. release the hydrogen within one hour.
And it's cheap.
It also meets a 3% by-weight absorption criteria set by automakers....something necessary for fuel cell cars.
Automakers want the material to be affordable and be able to work at 150-200C and release the chemical within 10 minutes.
The researchers are confident they can clear the last two hurdles.
The present compound being used is called palladium and is too expensive. Maybe they can scavage some from that dental tech with those 3000 pairs of false teeth.
Still...fuel cell cars are getting closer...it's just a matter of time.
Maybe my son will drive one.
Do you think fuel cell cars will always be cars of the future and never the present?
