Don't tell Superman...or better yet, somebody tell him!
A new mineral has been discovered in Serbia that is said to have the same composition as the fictional kryptonite.
I remember reading lots of Superman comics as a kid but never knowing what minerals made up the rocks that took away Superman's power. The article doesn't say whether it is green, red or blue either.
A mineral expert says the chemical formula, sodium lithium boron silicate hydroxide, is the same as that written on a case of rock containing kryptonite stolen by Lex Luthor from a museum in Superman Returns.![]()
Did the expert think that the mineral he 'discovered' might already have been discovered? And the writers of Superman borrowed from that discovery?
The European Journal of Mineralogy will call the white (the deadly kryptonite is green) powdery, non-radioactive substance Jadarite.
I guess Superman is still safe...for now.
Who is your favorite super hero?
