I had never heard of a bogan either.

A bogan is 'unflattering slang for an unsophisticated, lower-income person."

I think in America we might call them a louse, bum, slob, slouch, creep or something along those lines.

A self proclaimed 'bogan' at New Zealand's Waikato University has been granted the equivalent of $68K to be used over three years for a project titled "The Everyday Life of Bogans: Identity and Community Among Heavy Metal Fans."

The man told the National Radio, "The stereotype of a bogan is tight black jeans, a Metallica T-shirt, a mullet or a shaved head and a love of beer and cars."

He will study "head banging" and "moshing" as well as why tattoos and body piercing are important.

Meanwhle, government funding in agricultural science decreased in NZ.

It's good/disheartening (pick one) to see that the Kiwis don't have any sense on how to spend their educational funds either.
