School is back in session today at Virginia Tech.
What a sad turn of events it was this past week...and the memories are far far from over to be sure.
The university is giving the students three options:![]()
1. They can continue their studies through the end of the semester
2. They can take a grade based on what they have done so far
3. They can withdraw from a course without penalty.
Options one and three make sense...but option two? How can students be given credit for completing something they haven't finished?
Still...empathy is called for.
The students for their part...."say they welcome the outpouring of support they have received, but they have grown noticeably weary of the news media. The Student Government Association asked reporters to leave by the start of classes Monday."
Right...it's time to leave them alone and let them get back to their lives, I think.

The second option is completely legit considering just how close it is to the end of the semester. Some schools go to Juen but many end in May. Since the vast majority of the semester is over, there's not much material left to cover and what's there probably isn't worth struggling through given the stress. It's not like the majority are going to graduate that way.
