In a couple of my online college classes this week we are discussing tone in written correspondence.
Invariably, the on line school students will point out how important it is to be professional, not use IM chatspeak, spell correctly and use good grammar...that sort of thing.
I liken poor spelling, (though I make mistakes, too) and lousy grammar to showing up for an important interview in ragged clothes, then mumbling through the whole exchange.
Here are 10 Grammar Mistakes that Make You Look Stupid.
1. Loose instead of lose.
2. It's used instead of its.
3. They're in place of their or there.
4. i.e. when e.g. is called for.
5. effect for affect
The other five are here.
Typos are okay...consistently making the same mistakes...nope. Not on my watch.
How is your grammar and spelling?
