1. Appearing depressed or sad most of the time.

2. Feeling hopeless.
3. Expressing hopelessness.
4. Withdrawing from family and friends.
5. Sleeping too much or too little.
6. Feeling tired most of the time.
7. Gaining or losing a significant amount of weight.
8. Making statements such as these:
* "I can't go on any longer."
* "I hate this life."
* "There's no point to this stupid life."
* "Everyone would be better off without me."
* "Life is not worth living."
* "Nothing matters anymore."
* "I don't care about anything anymore."
* "I want to die."
* --And any mention of suicide--
9. Writing notes or poems about suicide or death.
10. Acting compulsively.
11. Losing interest in most activities.
12. Giving away prized possessions.
13. Writing a will.
14. No sense of humor.
15. Facing a perceived "humiliating" situation.
16. Facing a perceived "failure."
17. Feeling excessive guilt or shame.
18. Acting irrationally.
19. Being preoccupied with death or dying.
20. Behaving recklessly.
21. Irritability
22. Frequently complaining about headaches, stomachaches, etc.
23. Neglecting personal appearance.
24. A dramatic change in personal appearance.
25. A dramatic change in personality.
26. Performing poorly at work or in school.
27. Abusing alcohol or drugs.
28. Inability to concentrate.
