A Russian rocket will lift a Chinese Probe and a Russian exploration vehicle known as a Phobos-Grunt. Great name! And very characteristic of the Russian mentality and ability to get things done.
China has four goals...explore
1. the spatial environment there
2. secrets behind disappearance of water
3. the features of evolution
and
4. find places to put more people. (not really). They are going to be quite disappointed on number three as well.
China's probe is 2.5'x 2.5'x 2.0' and weighs about 250lbs...and is designed to last two years.
China is the only other country besides Russia and the United States to put a man in space.
If I were going, I'd want the Russians to take me. I'd be hungry and uncomfortable...but, dang it, they'd get me there and back.
