The Department of Defense has blocked access to Youtube, MySpace and other social media sites on all official department computers worldwide.
Bad move.
Our men and women serving our country should NOT be prevented from viewing such sites...even at work.
There are good reasons:
1. If the Pentagon servers can't handle the load, they will know to ask Congress for an increase in budget...and have reasons to back it up.
2. It's futile - trying to prevent a government employee from goofing off at work is equal in difficulty to gettiing them to work. One challenge at a time.![]()
3. Where else can the CIA gets its supporting info on the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Iran? North Korea?
4. Anything worth seeing on Youtube or MySpace can be found somewhere else...try CollegeHumor, Ebaumsworld ...
5. How else will President Bush be able to get a reliable picture of what is going on in China? Japan? Afghanistan?
The ban won't work. Trying to stomp out social media sites will be like trying to rid the world of terrorism. The 'bad guys' will always pop up elsewhere?
Do you think the DoD should stick to its ban?
