The Department of Defense has blocked access to Youtube, MySpace and other social media sites on all official department computers worldwide.
Good move.
Our men and women serving our country should NOT be allowed to view such sites.
There are good reasons:
1. If the DoD computers are not bogged down by video downloading and sharing, it will improve efficiency of the deparment's networks.![]()
2. The workerbees shouldn't be accessing the sites anyway...they might become confused. "Is that an incoming missile?" "Nope, that's a picture of a shooting star in the night sky over Iraq after lights out."
3. Service members will be forced to show more ingenuity to see the sites they are really interested in...anything that is good always gets posted somewhere else.
4. There are security concerns. I have served in the military. Usually the prostitutes in the backwoods villages knew about ship movements and port visit schedules BEFORE the average sailor did.
5. Repeat after me...we want President Bush to stay focused....we want President Bush to stay focused.
6. The Pentagon doesn't want Google deciding what is appropriate content for government computers and what is not.
Besides...file sharing can be done at home on private networks or in the local internet bars where security is not a concern??
Do you think the DoD servers are not big enough to handle the audio and video streaming or are there other reasons?
