The only reason, until the girls say otherwise, that anyone could imagine the seven girls stole 1,000 copies of the Framingham State College newspaper was because they were embarrassed about their bare-bellied picture on the front page.
The seven girls wore short-cut tank tops and low rise shorts to show school spirit, and too much belly, for the lacrosse team.
When the girls saw their picture they took to a life of crime...absconding about half of the 2,000 copies that school newspaper puts out.
And that is going to keep classmates from seeing them how?
The English professor and paper's faculty adviser commented, "This is the most stupid reason the paper has been stolen."
In 15 years, the paper has been swiped four times.
Police learned who the culprits were when one of the students came clean soon after the theft.
For punishment...the seven dwarves, er, girls should be made to write articles in the next edition of the paper on a topic chosen by the paper's editor.

Im friends with all of these girls, and what is going around on the news is not the real story. 2 of the girls stole the newspapers. it was not because of they thought they looked fat in the pictures, it is because they were shocked to even see their picture in the paper. I think if they had been told, and had posed for this picture, than they would not have minded. but to have this picture be taken without them knowing, and kind of unflattering, and being published in the paper, i think anyone would be shocked. If they had been told of the photo, and posed for it, than it would not have been a shock. NONE of these girls are FAT!! Not one of them is overweight in any way shape or form. For the media to be going around and insulting these girls calling them fat and ugly is absoulutely ridiculous. THey are all beautiful girls and none of them are fat! Only 130 copies were stolen by two girls, and returned immediately. The news keeps reporting 800-1000 copies stolen and that is definetly not true. The two girls walked by a stack of them, grabbed some, and left. They did not steal 1000 copies. The newspapers are FREE, how do you STEAL something that is FREE? The newspapers are left in stands for the taking around the campus buildings, how can they be "stolen"? What if they took a bunch to hand out to friends? Why should these girls be insulted and prosecuted for anything? It really is NOT a big deal and for all the media to be saying these girls are fat and ugly is ridiculous. Why do you think so many girls have eating disorders or self esteem issues? How can you classify these girls as fat? These girls are all skinny, and normal girls, and nowhere close to fat. These girls have dealt with enough insults from the media, and having their words twisted by the news, and have been made to look like idiots. It is wrong for the newspaper to post such a picture without the girls knowledge or at least asking them to smile for the photo. They did not go out to a highly attended sports event asking for attention. Not many people go to the games, and none of the girls walked around campus looking like that. They did it to support a friend. If the campus was proud of the girls for showing support, ask them to pose for a picture. Im sure they would not have minded. The picture is just unflattering and all of the girls are upset by it and no one was happy with how they looked in the picture. They are all beautiful, healthy, and definetly not fat! and the world needs to get a serious reality check if you want to call them fat. The girls do NOT have a self image problem, and do not think theyre fat. It has nothing to do with thinking they must be stick thin supermodels! They were all just shocked to see an unflattering picture like that in the paper, on the front page, in color like that. I know they were getting harrassed around the school and it was getting joked about. Most of the girls were unhappy with the fact that it was printed, only 2 of them actually went and took them, but all of the girls were unhappy with the photo. The school shouldnt take action against the girl, and I think the Gatepost owes these girls an apology. It is because of that that so much of the media is covering this story. Absolutely ridiculous!! these girls are my friends, and they are all confident and have no problems with their bodies, but now the whole world is calling them fat! Way to instigate self image issues. I know a majority of the girls are upset with what the media is saying, referring to them as "beer bellied", "flabby ab-ed", "needing lipo", and singling out some of the girls and saying theyre fat. None of these girls need that! they are all a healthy weight. And you wonder why so many girls have self image problems?
Hookers? You are absolutely ridiculous to call them that!! i know girls at my high school that dressed up like this at the games, nevermind at my college!! They are not dressed as hookers... its 90 degrees outside!! they were wearing shorts and tank tops, and simply rolled up their shirts and wrote the name of a friend to support her!! they were having fun, not being hookers, barely anyone was at this game anyway, so get over it !! you have no right to call them that. Or insult their parents. Theyre all wonderful girls.
