A professor of engineering at the University of Tsukuba's graduate school is the creator of HAL - Hybrid Assistive Limb - a suit that will give the wearers super human strength. Well, not that much strength but much more than they had.
Enough for a man who was stricken with polio soon after birth to walk for the first time in 45 years ...
Enough for a physical therapist to don the suit and carry a man who was paralyzed after a car accident, on his back on a slope of a 4,000 meter-high snow-covered mountain in Switzerland.
HAL can also help rescue workers in disasters.
HAL's sensors, which are attached to the joints of the body, catch electrical
impulses, move the body parts a bit earlier than the muscles do and assist them with their movements.
Results...a 25-kilogram rice bag can be lifte effortlessly.
HAL suits will come in red, blue or silver but NOT yellow or pink so as to NOT be confused with so-and-so Rangers.
What uses can you think of for a robot suit?
More about the heretic who created HAL in secret can be read here.
