The regent wants to allow campus employees to be deputized and armed and trained to respond with force to future college shootings.
What if its an employee who is doing the shooting?
Anyway, a Las Vegas police captain says he will propose to the "Nevada System of Higher Education to allow employees from faculty members to maintenance workers to be certified as reserve police officers."
"Hey, prof! What's that in your pocket?"
"That's not a banana, that's my gun. Sit down!"
University Chancellors and the Las Vegas Police Chief are enthusiastic about the idea?
Huh!
The way to prevent shootings is to give more guns out?
Sounds like a Nevada idea....a kind of real life Russian roulette game maybe.
Am I the only one who is wondering, "What in the world are they thinking?"
I know profs who can't hit the blackboard with a piece of chalk, and now they want to give them a gun?!

Trained and Certified means they will know what they are doing. It means they are going to be taught what to do and when to do it. They are not just handing out guns and telling them "Go Get Em!" It means police training required to be certfied as Reserve Police Officers. Now, how many of those kids at Virginia Tech would still be alive today if Reserve Police Officers, were on campus for their protection?
It's easy to make fun of an idea when you are being selective about what you take from it. A psycho can always carry a gun, but even the most liberal of those dead students may have appreciated an armed Reserve Police Officer responding to their cries for help and agony. Would you have had a problem if SWAT were able to come to the rescue in time and gunned down the shooter? I would hope not. This is no different only your police officers are now among the students, ready to use their training in the event it is needed and preventing a tragedy like Virginia Tech. You can still have your Gun Free Campus, but just in case someone gets on campus who doesn't much care if it's gun free or not, you have Trained, Reserve Police Officers at the ready.
