There's a reason why those things are called cancer sticks, coffin nails or worse.
Not a few times in the great outdoors, I have taken in a wisp of air and then coughed only to see some knothead 5-10 feet a head of me huffing and puffing and blowing nothing down.
Stanford University did a study of how smoking affects the quality of air at sidewalk cafes, park benches and other outdoor locations.
The conclusion - "adverse effects on the heart and respiratory systems and increase the severity of asthma attacks, especially in children."![]()
So, now they can kill us or at least make us gag, choke and cough...and not even get credit for it.
"The Stanford team concluded that a non-smoker sitting a few feet downwind from a smoldering cigarette is likely to be exposed to substantial levels of contaminated air for brief periods of time."
and...
another prof says..."We were surprised to discover that being within a few feet of a smoker outdoors may expose you to air pollution levels that are comparable, on average, to indoor levels that we measured in previous studies of homes and taverns."
Sitting a foot and half away from a smoker outdoors who smokes two cigarettes = exposure to secondhand smoke sitting inside a tavern with smokers.
WARNING - People who smoke are stupid and will slowly kill you.
Are you stupid?
I had a grandfather who smoked three packs of cigarettes every day for 70 years and lived to be 87. Of course, he coughed for 4 days after he died.
