People like to give if they think it is for a worthy cause. People can indeed be charitable.
But, what happens when too many people want to help too much?
Beijing World Park organized a "Fight Hunger: Walk the World 2007" and expected/hoped that about 1,000 people would show up.
More than 30,000 people came.
When park authorities began to sense that public safety could not be insured they did the only thing they could think of ...called it off...sent everyone home.
And the people they had hoped to help are still hungry.
People were told they could come to the park for free on the day of the walk...(NOTE: Chinese will take advantage of FREE and there are a LOT of Chinese people in Beijing) but the announcement failed to mention that a registration was required.
For about ten some years in Japan, my company organized a walk for the world on a much smaller scale and in no connection with this event. We raised nearly $100,000 to help different causes.
It would have been nice to have had too many people, I think....but not if they have to be sent home.
Moses told the people to go home and stop giving, too.
What charity do you give to?
