162,695 students from 184 countries and regions went to China to study in 2006...the most ever.
Exchange students studied in 519 universities and colleges in 31 different Chinese provinces.
Last year was up more than 15% from 2005 alone.
About 5% of the students received scholarships from the Chinese goverment, also up 15%.
The percentage of students staying longer than 6 months was about 73% and students from other Asian countries made up 74% of the group.
Europe sent 12.7% of the students, 9.6% were from America, 2.3% from Africa and 1.7% from down under.
The five biggest source countries were Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Japan, the United States, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The number one major - liberal arts.
