It's finals time.
My son just called go tell me he will have finals all next week. He's finishing up his junior year in college.
So, besides attending class, taking good notes, making sure you understand, taking advantage of tutoring services, studying a little bit each day and a lot before the test, getting a good night sleep and waking up on time, what else can be done to be prepared for a final exam?
Tip # 1 - Breakfast!
Here's four reasons why:
1. It will give you better recall
2. It will give you better problem-solving skills
3. It will give you better scores on math tests.
4. If you wake up in time to have breakfast, you surely will be on time for your test.
The best foods -
1. A whole grain cereal such as sugar-free muesli
2. Granary toast
3. Fruit and yogurt
Tip # 2 For mid morning snacks AVOID:
1. quickly digested snacks,
2. refined carbs - biscuits, cereal bars, fizzy drinks and sweets
The sugar burst will create an energy draining low.
Tip # 3 During the exam:
1. Drink water
2. Too much caffeine can leave you on edge and lead to wrong decisions
Tip # 4 Lunch!
1. Avoid fat-laden, mayonnaise, sandwiches, pizzas and chips
2. Carbs, pastas, etc will make you sleepy.
3. Do protein - tuna, chicken, lean beeff, turkey, eggs, pita bread, tortilla wrap, sourdough or granary bread.
4. Try an iron supplement to improve concentration
The Cheat Sheet -
1. Boost Omega 3s - oily fish, flax seeds, enriched-eggs, orange juice, milk
2. Avoid junk foods
3. Go heavy on the fruits, berries and veggies.
4. Try tea, green, jasmine, oolong, instead of caffeine or sugary drinks.
Then bring home a good grade and make dad proud.
Ah...my son got a 98% on his last chemistry test.
What is your eating routine during finals?
