It's safe. It's okay. It won't hurt the baby. Pregnancy is NOT an excuse to pile on the pounds and in some cases pile on MORE pounds.
"'We found that obese women do not have to gain any weight, and, in fact, can lose weight and it won’t hurt the baby. Pregnancy is an ideal time to start an exercise and fitness program, particularly for women who are obese,' says Dr. Artal an internationally recognized expert who has conducted extensive research on exercise during pregnancy and is the lead author of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ current guidelines on exercise for pregnant women."Forget the eat-for-two mentality and the take-it-easy advice of the past.
Why lose weight when you are pregnant -
1. Pregnant women are more likely to see a doctor and be highly motivated to make a change in their lifestyle.
2. Babies born to women who lost or maintained weigh had babies of normal size.
3. Women who gained weight had bigger babies - 8.5 lbs and heavier
4. Women with bigger babies tended to have more babies by Caesarian section.
5. Women will be less likely to retain weight gained during the pregnancy...making mom healthier in the long run.
Not only can we learn our ABCs and the key people of the Renaissance Era from our colleges and universities, but it seems we can learn how to live better lives...today...now, too?
