You might think that 16 years on death row and you would lose your sense of humor.
Not so for the guy who shot his neighbors to death back in 1991.
The man on death row, who will be the fifth and last to die in three weeks in Texas is collecting jokes, wisecracks. He plans to choose the funniest one to tell right before he meets his Maker.
I figure, he'd better get his laughs out of the way before that final judgment, eh?
Texas has executed 14 prisoners this year and five are planned for this month. At this pace, the Lone Star State could tie the record for the most in one year - 40.
Ten are already scheduled for the second part of the year.
The death row inmate says, "I know I'm not innocent. They think they're killing me. They think they're punishing me. They've already punished me. I've already had 16 years of punishment. They're releasing me. They're letting me go. That's helping me out. That's the way I look at it."
If you ask me, the real joke is the legal system that let his appeal process drag on for 16 years...even the guy admits his guilt.
