Several things about this story scare me.
1. It happened very close to my home - Nagaoka, Nigata. I taught at a high school in this city for nearly 10 years.
2. An 18-year old girl gave birth to a 2,800 gram (6+lb) baby boy in a toilet.
3. The baby suffocated and died.
and the scariest of all...
4. The teachers were unaware that the girl was pregnant.
How can a girl go to class for nine months and teachers not realize that something is up? How IS THAT possible?
"I can't go to gym class today, teach. I am feeling a little bloated."
How many times can a girl say that?
And, btw, where in the world were mom and dad for the past nine months?
Shortly after giving birth, the girl called a friend from her mobile phone. The friend alerted teachers and an ambulance was called...nine months too late.
