An 11th year student in Vancouver was suspended then expelled at the 11th hour (almost) for a prank she posted on Facebook.
"If 200 people sign this, I'll kick (teacher Pat Mullaney) in the box." (Box? Canadian for?)
More than 200 people signed.
The girl did NOT follow through on the threat but when school officials found out about it, she was suspended for three weeks and then finally expelled. She has to find a new school to go to for her graduating year.
Her father, who knew aobut the joke, said she never intended to cause any harm.
And he knew about it? And did nothing?
A professor at the University of British Columbia's School of Journalism thinks students don't realize that their postings become public infomation and that anybody can access it.
His advice...have parents educate their kids about Internet safety.
But...who is going to educate the parents?
The prof says students "shouldn't be posting anything they wouldn't want the whole world to see."
Really now. Do you agree?

I'm pretty sure she knew the posting became public record because she invited 200 people to sign her petition. This is definitely an example of a student not thinking before she published. It is also why I am very careful about the image I present with my online identity.
