I am not sure how the mother got a sign around her 13-year old daughter's neck when she couldn't get the young lady to listen to her otherwise.
However, the mother decided to publicly humiliate her not so little girl because of her misbehavior.
The young lady was made to wear a sign that said, "I don't obey my parents, I'm a liar. I steal from my mom. I have a bad attitude."
The mother told a local TV station in Memphis, "All other resources haven't worked. I hope this works for her. I love my child. ... I could be beating her to death, but I'm not."
Let me see...if beating her little girl to death was a thought that came to the mom's mind, then perhaps the mom should be wearing a sign, too."
"I am stupid. I have thought about beating my daughter to death. I decided public humiliation is better."
How about a scarlet letter, too?
The little girl said, "I'm gonna start (behaving better) because I don't want to be standing
out here with everybody looking at me like I'm crazy with this sign."Is it because she is afraid of being thought of as crazy or because she has reflected on her wrongdoing?
Perhaps the mom ought to rethink her strategy.
What do you think is the best way to teach kids to behave?
