Nope, it's not an award that I am giving to the professor of political science at Stanford for reading my RisingSunOfNihon blog.
The Japanese Consulate in San Francisco will award the Order of the Rising Sun to Daniel Okimoto of Stanford for his work to promote relations between the United States and the land of the Rising Sun - Japan.
The award was created by Emperor Meiji in 1875.
United Nations Secretary General Kofi Anan and Norman Mineta, former U.S. secretary of transportation and namesake for the San Jose Airport will also receive the award this year.
