Takeru Kobayashi trains himself to be a bigger eater....especially before championships such as the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest held every fourth of July.
So, how does this eating machine train himself to gobble up/down more food than anybody else in the world?
1. He eats ... a lot...to expand his stomach.
2. He exercises so that there will be no fat in his stomach to impede expansion.
3. He trains with weights to add muscle and increase metabolism so he can eat more.
4. He consumes 6,000 calories a day to feed his 5'7" 165 lb frame with less than 10% body fat.![]()
Techniques
1. The Kobayashi Shake - a body wiggle to force food down his esophagus to settle more compactly into his stomach.
2. He eats the hot dogs first, by splitting them in halves and swallowing both at the same time.
3. He soaks the buns n water, Sprite or 7-up, then stuffs it down.
Kobayashi has two physical conditions, one that helps and one that hurts his
chances of winning. His stomach sits below his rib cage allowing it to expand more when he eats.
He also has arthritis of the jaw which means this year will be particularly tough on the champ.
Who do you think will win?
Joey Chestnut or Takeru Kobayashi?
