It happens all the time.
Teachers marry one of their students.
But, what I want to know is why would a 40-year old teacher marry their student if she is just 16-years old?
Maybe I should wonder the reverse as well....why a 16-year old girl would marry somone old enough to be her father.
A 40-year old high school teacher and cross country coach married a 16-year old student in North Carolina. The girl was a star runner on his cross country team.
Oftentimes when a young lady allows herself to become wrapped up with an old fart it is because she didn't get the fatherly attention (the good kind) that she needed.
That doesn't seem to be the case here.
Her parents tried to:
1. get help from the school officials
2. get help from law enforcement
3. get help from other teachers
4. get help from other students
5. get a restraining order
6. get a lawyer
In the end, the parents reluctantly signed a consent form. The teacher resigned his position.
It is said...you can't control who you will fall in love with...
I live in the area-- if you ask me-- it is all just a ploy for money-- by the parents too....

They had legal control over the girl and they let her get married?
The school board did all they could legally to protect the girl-- limiting contact on campus after the parents complained-- the parents did not supervise away from school...
Honestly, i think the parents are fine with it -- they just want to sue the school board.... They have NO case... and the first motions have been laughed out of court because the parents signed....
I just cant wait for the movie to come out... hopefully lifetime will tell the tale...
