For the first time in history universities and colleges in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region have more girls than boys.
51.62% of the students in the region's 31 colleges and universities are girls.
Even in post grad studies, girls make up 50.97%.
Xinjiang is proud of the fact that more farmers and herdsmen are sending their daughters to school, largely because the government invested more in education.
99% of the population of elementary aged students are in school.
Beijing has exempted students in rural areas of western China from tuition and other fees related to nine-year
compulsory education and the range of exemptions is expected to expand.Nearly 80% of China's primary and junior middle school students are among the 150 million rural households with students that age.
Perhaps those 30+ million fellows who outnumber girls in the rest of the country can head to Xinjiang to find a wife....and a smart one at that.
