J K Rowling is spoiling the ending, the midnight magic, the mood.
At her website Rowling wrote "As launch night looms, let's all, please, ignore the misinformation popping up on the web and in the press on the plot of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.'"
So...are copies out? And even they are, how do we know who to believe?
Seriously.
Rowling also wrote, "I'd like to ask everyone who calls themselves a Potter fan to help preserve the secrecy of the plot for all those who are looking forward to
reading the book at the same time on publication day. In a very short time you will know EVERYTHING!"
Correct me if I am wrong, but spoiling...there is, there isn't...a copy is out...it isn't...is all part of the hype, no?
After all...how would anybody know that the spoilers are/were indeed correct unless, gee, they read the book? Or
found someone they believe is credible to tell them the spoilers were right/wrong AFTER they read the book.In other words...offering up spoilers is, IMHO, part of the fun and the hype.
In the end, Rowling and her publishers should be pleased that it will just help sell more books.
But, then maybe Rowling already knows that and hence is speaking out.
Come midnight. hundreds of millions of people will be lined up to get their books ...many reading having had their TVs off, their radios and PCs disconnected so they wouldn't hear/see any 'spoilers'. The rest will be reading to see if the 'spoilers' they had come across were correct or just lies.
Spoilers, spoiling...is part of the hype...and good business at that.
What do you think?
