Scholastic Inc. Rowling's U.S. publishers estimate that "around one one-hundredth of one percent of the total U.S. copies" going on sale early Saturday morning were received prematurely.
That means of the 12 million that are going to be scarfed up, about 120 are already 'out there'...on eBay.
On Wednesday, the $34.99 final release was being offered for immediate purchase for $250.
With super fast shipping, the book would be in hand by, golly, Friday night.![]()
FWIW....IMHO, it's all part of the hype.
Leaks, rumors of leaks, denials, confirmations...it adds to
the excitement. Not one less book will be sold, and chances are more will be because someone said they got a copy early and someone else read the book just to prove that the 'spoiler' didn't know squat.
I believe me. I believe my son...a Harry Potter fan. But even he read the book and told me what happened and where and to whom and I published it here...well, who's going to believe me and what difference would it make?
The more the book is talked about, the more it sells....period.
BTW, would you pay $250 for a $35 object just to get a head start of a day or so on everyone else?
the excitement.
