Paul Newman, the academy award winner for his role in the 1986 movie "The Color of Money,'' showed some of his true colors when Ypsilanti High School Drama Club got an unexpected boost in its fundraising drive with a check from the actor for $5,000.
The school had been raising money to send its drama club on a trip to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland.
A note - "The enclosed contribution is sent with every good wish for continued success in your worthy endeavors.'' from Paul Newman was included.
The school was $10,000 short of their fundraising goal until the gift came. ![]()
Newman, who sent the check from Westport, Conn, also won a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2005 for the movie "Empire Falls,'' and a Golden Globe in 2006.
Perhaps Ypsilanti will produce another actor or
actress of the caliber of Paul Newman.
Even it doesn't...the students are sure to learn what it means to give something back....and that might be an even better lesson learned.
What do you think?
