About 3,000 women were tracked in Shanghai, half of whom were diagnosed with breast cancer.
Post-menopausal women who ate Western style food - beef, pork, shrimp, chicken, candy, desserts and dairy products - were a whopping 60% more likely to develop breast cancer than those eating vegetables and soy.
Younger women also had an increased risk but it was not statistically significant.
Does this mean it's okay to eat western style until menopause? Does it
mean a woman's period protects her from cancer causing agents? The increase in risk seems to be related to the increase in red-meat intake sad one of the researchers at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.
Obesity caused as a result of such a diet also contributes to risk of breast cancer.
The two general patterns of eating -
1 - "vegetable-soy" pattern based on tofu, cauliflower, beans, bean sprouts and green leafy vegetables, with not much meat."
2 - "meat-sweet"
The second pattern as opposed to any single dietary factor is where the finger in this study is pointing.
What kind of diet do you eat?
