Type 2 diabetes is not only inherited but also develops from lifestyle - including lack of exercise and poor diet.
Additionally, more than 80% of type 2 diabetics are
obese. From 1975-80 diabetic students in Tokyo numbered 1.7 per 100,000.
From 1981-1985 - the number jumped to 3.2/100K.
1986-1990 -3.1/100K
1991-1995 - 2.9/100K
1996-2000 - 2.7/100K
2001-2005 - 1.5/100K the lowest in 30+ years.
Nihon University School of Medicine says the drop result is because of a change in people's attitudes toward exercise and diet. Urban families are more concerned about the disease and join gyms and avoid sugary fruit juices.
That's the answer - a change in attitude followed by a change in lifestyle.
Eat better + move more = decrease in occurrence of Type 2 diabetes
