
Sixty years ago there were just 381 schools.
Now there are 1,900 middle and primary schools and 36 colleges serving some 24 million people.
In the 1950's scholars from Peking and Nankai Universities decided to make Inner Mongolia their mission...more accurately, to educate the minorities in the region.
The Inner Mongolia Normal University was established in 1952 and is considered the flagship institution of the region. ![]()
At the time, some 90% of the locals were considered illiterate.
Today, there is a nine-year compulsory education
scheme that has pretty much closed the illiteracy gap in the region.
For kids living in remote areas, a boarding system has been established.
In sixty years, men and women with a mission, to educate - did just that.
