The Japanese are nuts sometimes. Okay, people are really nutty sometimes and the Japanese are no exception.
For some reason, pretty girls in tights and bathing suits loved to be drilled into the ground until they are all sweaty and slippery. And they don't mind who does it do them...mostly.
'Billy's Boot Camp' has sold more than 1 million DVDs at 14,700 ($120ish) per set making total sales almost 15 billion yen ($12.5 million)! just in Japan! And, in about
one month! (oops...one year.)
Billy Blanks visited Japan in June to promote the DVD. A month later Oak Lawn Marketing, Inc., the production company of
home shopping brand Shop Japan is a multi-millionaire.I once translated for a guy who invented 'Funky Aerobics' or some weird name like that.
A good friend of mine was an aerobic dancer and Japan champ from the early years. She was always looking for an edge, something new to introduce to her aerobic studio...thus the Funky whatever.
The guy who led it apparently was one of the dance choreographers for Dionne Warwick.
To make a long story short...he was fat, jello-like overweight. He asked me to take him to a store where he could buy some rat-poison, snake-venom, spike drink (I don't remember the name) so that he could have a 'pick-me-up' before going to 'teach' the girls.
He said, "I only need this energy drink to keep me going. I eat just once a day."
Sounds pretty healthy to me.
And the girls danced and danced. Whenever he couldn't keep up, he walked around yelling at the girls to shake more...more...more!
But can Billy do these things with his face?

They didn't sell 1 million copies in one month! Yeah, that would've be really nuts!
