The University of Texas spent five years studying the why behind sex.
Why do people want to have sex? Why do college students want to have sex?
Before asking 1,549 students to choose, they had to give them all cold showers. The group likely thought they were going to have to explain their reasons AFTER a session.
UT researchers asked 444 men and women, ranging in age from 17-52 why they wanted to have sex. They came up with 237 distinct reason, from "it's fun" to "I wanted to give someone else a sexually transmitted disease."
So, what about the college kids?
Twenty of the top 25 reasons given for having sex were the same for men and women.
Expressing love and showing affection were in
the top ten for both men and women.But the clear number one for both sexes - "I was attracted to the person."
Translated = lust.
Other top reasons - wanting to experience physical pleasure, 'it feels good'.
Men only want sex for physical pleasure and women want love is OUT.
Both groups were into lust moreso than love the report in the August edition of Archives of Sexual Behavior says.
Men, however, were more likely to be opportunistic towards sex whereas women were more likely to have sex because they felt a need to please their partner (this sounds more like it, to me.)
Another finding - one of the authors think that 237 reasons may NOT be enough.
Uh...how many reasons can you think of to have sex?
