Gay Person Refused Funeral at High Point Church in Arlington, TX

Here is something worth knowing...if you were gay and now dead, do not expect your survivors to hold a funeral service at the High Point Church in Arlington, Texas...even if your brother works there. He has little pull.

He might get the funeral service approved but when they find out you were gay, your family will be sent packing.

The High Point Church has room every Sunday for 5,000 people. The pastor's wife's brother's church will seat 38,000 in Houston, TX. However, gay people

need not attend. The churches are apparently for those who do NOT need totexas.mega.gay.church.jpg attend...not for those who do...for those who feel they can toss stones at others.

I am a church goer from way back and I do NOT condone the gay life style. I do, however, love my gay friends and will offer them unconditional friendship. AND, if they die would gladly hold a service for them or their family members. They might NOT like what I say, however. But, still....

The High Point church is far too narrowminded and I wonder what their preacher learned in Bible College when he studied Jesus' words - "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick."

Will your church hold a funeral service for someone who was gay?

I sure hope your church will be able to answer God when he ask you and your church members on why did you refuse this man a funeral because he was gay. It is said that man is made in the image of God and if a woman was made from rib of Adam than who are you people to judge gay people. I feel sorry for your church and your priest and I hope you all learn that a person is judge by his deeds. It shame we cannot understand that gay people don't chose to be gay this is something that only God understands and for us to be God fearing people and refuse a man his rights to be laid to rest because he is Gay is scary. What next for churches to do refuse us because we are cripple and ect. I only say to this church I will pray for your church because you all need it. My heart goes out to the family of the gay man and know this my dear ones he is with God and he has no ugly in his heart as this church had.

I wonder what Jesus would do.......

It's a known fact that any religion sucks when it comes to being gay... The bible says is not right but why is that?

Bigots should be allowed to preach against the teaching of Jesus. High Point Church members want slick entertianment and selfish healing for themselves. Why would we even think they might want to live the message of Christ and his compassion.

Their website provides a response to the debate that makes them look worse. The blubbering statement to the media by their pastor and the crasy ramlings of their website make me wonder who is in charge of PR.

This is an example of how not to reach the lost.

Knowledge is the name of your site and so far I have seen very little. The truth for not allowing the funeral was not that Cecil was gay but the way the funeral was to be ran. I am confident that at any one of your churches that you attend that a male greeter does not kiss guys on the mouth when they walk in the building. I am also very confident that your church would not allow the officiator to allow other homosexual men to speak about their past affairs with the deceased, or show openly gay behavior on the video screens throughout the church, or bring in the local all homosexual choir for the music. If all this was about was burying a guy that was gay the service would have happend. However, a memorial of this nature would not even be allowed in a public school much less a church that agrees with you as you stated "doesn't condone the gay lifestyle". Ignorance is always bliss....try getting some facts before judging a situation you read about on the internet!

Thanks for you comments, Eddie.

I moved them into a post of their own in hopes that others will see both sides and understand why the High Point Church did what it felt necessary.

Oh, and thanks for reading.

News reporting has the responsibility to be accurate. Your reporting on this issue is so lopsided and distorted. I have read about this issue in the papers and your telling of the story is way off base from the truth. You have painted the church to be one that "HATES" gay persons and that is not what they have said at all. Where is the truthful reporting telling the issue was not that he was gay but that the family wanted to promote that life style in a church that believes the Bible has spoken very clearly on this issue. Some commenter's indicated that Jesus would of done differently. I disagree. Jesus stood up against sin many times (all the time) and He would never condone any type of promoting of sin. Can anyone there tell me why you would print such an one sided story just to paint an ugly picture of a church? Perhaps here is the bigger sin?? The sin of using you (news reporting) to promote a life style which can not be condoned by the church. Even so, Jesus died on the cross for even you! He forgives sin, not condones sin. There is a VERY big difference.

My goodness, but there's a lot of hate in this article. And anger that is notobly lacking in the High Point Church's statement on why they chose not to host this funeral. I also think that it's worth noting that when they're supposedly being so "hateful" they offered to pay for another facility when they decided they could not in good concience host the memorial (which the family declined), and they DID bring quite a bit of food to the memorial. I don't think that it's the church-goers that are hating gays here, but there does seem to be more than a bit of animosity from the gay community toward the church, as well as quite a bit of misinformation and distorted information.

Well I must agree with TBOK!! It seems as everyone else is getting heated on this particular church for it's decision. One thing that we must understand, is not to be ignorant in our speaking. Become knowledgeable of what the Bible says and teaches. Yes the Bible teaches us to love and embrace all and yes the bible teaches against homosexuality, there's no way around it. The big issue of this story is the declining of this man's funeral in a church. Well there had to be a reason for his refusal. In reading further in the story I found out that his family wanted to promote his gay lifestyle during the services. That's a no-no!!! It's a church, people!!! We as christian folk and churchgoers have a standard. Every other organization has it's own rules and guidelines, why not the church.Everyone expects the church to just let anything happen and lower the standards.Answer this, I am black, and if I die can I have my service held in a Klu Klux Klan meeting place? No!!And quite naturally everyone would say why can't he have it somewhere else. But to make it more closer to this situation, A white person being a member of a predominately black congregation has a parent die that is racist and they want to have their service at the church. Should they have the service their, YES!!! But does that give them a right to promote racism and say the "N"word, NO! Case in point, we should take advantage of circumstances as this. There is a family in need of having a funeral and we can preach salvation to them but if they don't want to respect the by-laws of the church, they won't respect it's teaching. Then the church will be seen as having double standards and then we would have another article asking, "why are there hypocrites in the church?"
