Great-great-grandma Phyllis left school when she was 12 years old to help her mother care for her siblings because her father had left them.
82 years later she received a Masters Degree in Medical Science from University of Adelaide.
The Guiness people say they have a category for the oldest master's graduate but they don't have anybody filling it.
94-year old Phyllis Turner may soon take the spot.![]()
It is not unusual to live to the 90s or even past a hundred anymore. But, for a mind to be fresh enough to complete
the studies is another matter. In three years, great-great-grannie could complete a PhD.
And if she did, she would replace the current record holder, Dr. Edgar Dowse who graduated from the London School of Theology at the age of 92 years and 268 days.
And to think that at half a century I am already tired. I think I should learn a lesson from this grandma and get back on the stick.
I mean, I could be around for another 40 years or more.
