I shifted to my right and looked directly into JJ’s dark brown eyes. I saw my own blue eyes reflecting back at me, as she looked back with a smile that accented her deep dimples. “Jackie,” I said, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear. I waited till I had everyone’s attention. It seemed I was being dramatic, but the truth was, I was surprised that everyone had noticed I was about to say something and nobody moved. “Jackie, I am very sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt you or cause you any shame. I’m really very sorry. Will you please forgive me?”
“Yes, Billy. I forgive you,” she said very tenderly and without hesitation. Everybody forgot to blink.
