Nicholas Ryan Dunn was 28-years old. His name in the obituary of the Indianapolis Star brought the average age of the dying yesterday down by about 20 years...maybe more.
His father wrote -
"Yesterday my son took his own life. He did not intend to. He did something thousands of people have and are doing, using drugs. Drugs they know nothing about. Drugs recommended and provided by friends or
strangers that are not chemists that know what's in them or doctors that knew

how much his body could take.
My son Nick has devastated us who have also been left behind in pain."
Realize you have no more idea of what or how much you're putting in your body than those selling it to you. Those drugs do not discriminate by race, income, the status of you or of your family. These are those that care about you and those you care about. Consider them please! The pleasure is not worth the risks!"
Goodbye Nick, we love you and will miss you."
Strangers showed up at the wake. People posted messages, offered consolation, wrote of being moved and willing to share the message with their own children. Prayers were offered up. Inmates read the paid-obituary after someone posted it on a bulletin board.
The paid obituary - the chance to tell a story in your own words, to be clever, to give details, to maybe impact future lives and keep them out of the paper for a while.
I have a son just three years younger than Nicholas. I think my son already knows what drugs can do to him. Tonight I will double check...or maybe just send him the obit this dad wrote.
Thanks, Dad!
