Sometimes judges do things that make sense.
Hearing a case about someone suing for $50 million because of lost pants is not one of them.
Making me go to court for running a stop sign on my BICYCLE is NOT one of them, either.
But, sentencing a man to serve 500 hours of community service tending graves at a military cemeterey becasue he posed as a decorated U.S. Marine Corps captain seems appropriate.![]()
Though the man never served in the Marines, he bought a uniform at a military surplus store and used medals
that belonged to his brother. He had also posed as a chaplain and reverend, praying for an opening at the Washington State Senate in 2006 (their best day ever of legislation?) and officiating at weddings and funerals of servicemen.
The man also was never ordained.
The couples he married were celebrating a chance to renege on vows they made before him....but, the judge said marriages he presided over would still be recognized.
Funerals...the people he buried will stay dead.
