Let me see...the Massachusetts State Lottery, the NYS Lottery, the Sunnyvale City Hall Raffle...Where should I throw my money away, er, give my money to?
The whole lottery thing came about after I left for Japan some 20+ years ago.
Now, they are huge and the amounts they can grow to are ginormous indeed.
I am a very lucky person. However, all my luck is bad luck.
I cannot imagine buying one ticket, giving even one dollar just in case. I mean I might as well just flush George down the nearest commode.![]()
My father-in-law took me to play pachinko in Japan. It's a kind of upright pinball machine - yes, the house always wins. You put in a 100 yen coin and watch/listen to the bongs. He gave me a 100 yen coin and my 10 little pin balls were down the hole in seconds...six seconds maybe. That was the first and last time for me to play pachinko...though it has a huge following.
My wife and I went on a cruise. Hmmm...slot machine. Okay, just for the fun of it, we bet $5 on something (I'm not sure which is probably why I lost) and within the time that I could name the four port calls we made, my money was gone...gone...gone.
But, people played all night...and they continue to do so.
So, what is it with the lottery? Is it the dream? Do people really think, gee, the State will take lottery earnings and improve education? Yea, improve education.
Look around...has education gotten any better as a result? Where? I sure am not getting paid any more.
I can't find the allure of playing the lottery. Where's the play?
T. Jefferson once said..."I have found the harder I work, the luckier I am."
Yup...there's where I will find luck...by working hard.
How about you?
